Filler Tobacco

There are 2 types of tobacco that is used for cigars, filler tobacco and long leaf tobacco. Filler tobacco - This is pieces of tobacco that are used to make the cigar. Usually remnants or pieces of tobacco. Also commonly referred to as short filler. You can usually tell a cigar made with short filler 2 ways - The ash does not burn long requiring you to ash the cigar frequently and when you are smoking you get little pieces of tobacco in your mouth. These cigars are usually less expensive. Longer Filler - These cigars use a whole leaf to make the cigar. The ash burns longer with these and the taste is better, since it is made up of the same leaf as the filler. These cigars are usually considered premium cigars. JD Cigars sells nothing but premium, long filler cigars!!

When ordering a cigar do you wonder what size you are ordering? If the cigar is 6x60, how big is it?

The first number in the cigar size is how long it is. For the example above, the cigar would be 6 inches long. The second number represents the ring gauge. Here are some common ring sizes: 54 gauge: About 4/5 of an inch thick, or the size of a nickel. 58 gauge: About 9/10 of an inch thick, or the size of a dime. 60 gauge (Often referred to as gordo): About an inch thick, or the size of a quarter. 70 gauge (Often referred to as super gordo): About 1 1/8 inch thick or the size of a silver dollar.
